FeymarchianCharacters currently in-game: None
CHARACTERCharacter Name: Rydia
Character Age: Unknown (20-ish... something, maybe? There's no real canon about it but she does look like a young woman)
Canon: Final Fantasy IV
Canon Point: Post FFIV - after Cecil and Rosa's wedding/Living in the Feymarch
History: Wiki here!Personality: Rydia's most definining traits are her honesty and her kindness: she's a person who will always try her best to be honest and it would be incredibly easy to spot a lie between her words because her facial expressions will always betray what the summoner really thinks. The only exception? "I'm okay". The summoner is extremely good at pretending everything is okay when she wants to hide her discomfort in front of others- that being said she's a determined and positive woman who will not be afraid to push herself to her limits.
The summoner is strongly driven by the need to help and protect others, living in what she considers the best time of her life (The Blue Planet is safe, she can just live underground with her family, all her friends are happy...) Rydia will not hesitate to do her best to bring joy to the people around her. And while she is more than devote to her human friends and her undeground family, instinctively prioritizing them over others, Rydia is a social person and will not hesitate to befriend strangers ignoring their race, gender or their origins.
It's worth noting that spending most of her childhood and part of her adulthood in the Feymarch and then isolating herself in what was left of Mist (an already reclused community) made Rydia a bit alienated from how normal human communities work (It's worth nothing it's canon, now, since the World Of Final Fantasy description mentions she feels like a 'fish out of water'*.). She can mix well enough between humans but now and then there may be some weird moments where she may not understand a joke or struggle to understand why someone acts in a certain way.
And, speaking of weirdness- she will probably love the idea of being underground since she's been raised in a cave for most of her life.
She doesn't like to be alone and this is seen more than once in the games: taking her eidolons, who seem to be linked not only by magic to her, away makes her feel lost, both in TAY and in her special trial on the moon. Having someone at her side makes her strong and considering she'll lose her eidolons after arriving in another world she'll definitely try to know more people, being slightly biased toward non human races.
Other traits worth mentioning are her ability to forgive basically everyone (Even Cecil and Kain, who burnt down her village, and Golbez who ordered Cagnazzo to have Mist destroyed.), even more than once, and her motherly attitude toward others. Rydia also enjoys physical contact, probably something she grew accostumed to in the Feymarch: more than once (At least in the 3D version of FFIV) she can be seen clinging to Cecil's arm, even when Rosa was at their side, it's safe to assume touching people she cares about gives her strenght.
Inventory: - Her clothes
- A
Whip- A couple of rings
Abilities: - Rydia is really good with magic: she had been a spellcaster since childhood and kept training for most of her life, she specializes in offensive magic having access to elemental spells (Mainly fire, water, lightning and ice) and skills that allow her to poison, petrify or stun her enemies. Since her real main skill, the ability to summon, includes calling at her side sentient characters that may be apped as unlikely as it is I'd rather just handwave it nerfing it completely.
- The summoner has been raised underground and before rejoining Cecil's party she navigated alone her way out of the Feymarch so I'm assuming she's skilled enough in finding her way in caves and similar places- being at least more able to orient herself than an average person.
Flaws:
- Rydia is a generally good person and her naivety in trusting others may be her biggest flaw: as she forgave everyone who wronged her in her world, she will probably keep doing the same in Hadriel- which may cause more problems than anything else. With this I don't mean she'll have the patience of a saint, Rydia will get angry when people are rude or do things she consider stupid (And any racist behaviour will probably cause her to overreact), but she'll definitely be more prone than others to offer the other cheek.
- She seriously struggles in dealing with
death. After Mist's destruction she's been in a world where creatures are basically immortal and not only we see her almost breaking down in Eblan's cave (In front of Edge, a stranger back then) at the idea that someone else may die but we know all the 'dead people' of the game somehow returned (All of them but Tellah)- she's not going to handle that topic too well.
- If something involves fire, she'll probably try to give her job to someone else. While she can use fire and combat with it, Rydia still doesn't like it at all.
- She is extremely sentimental when it comes to family and blood bonds, one can see that ingame when Golbez is apparently leaving forever and she's the one trying to push Cecil to say goodbye because "
he's your only family", no matters what the other man did.
- Rydia sincerely dislikes misogynistic comments of sort: she considers herself on the same level of men and she wants to be treated like one of the group, trying to protect her
because she's a woman will probably push her to attempt something stupid instead. (like when she and Rosa hid on the Moonwhale because the men wanted them to stay behind.) And yes,
she will be smug about it.
SAMPLES
Action Log Sample: [Rydia had never been too fond of vegetables, the only plants they had in her land were overgrown thorny bushes that almost guarded the entry of the Feymarch. She had never really liked fruits and berries but she usually tolerated them, mostly to please Rosa and Cecil, even managing to reintroduce some in her diet but those red things... big cherries, maybe? Those were creeping her out. And while the summoner loved monsters in all shapes and forms the tomatoes didn't seem friendly monsters like the ones she grew with.]
Why don't we both pick different ways?
[She certainly didn't want to attack them, they probably meant no harm like most of the misunderstood monsters she met during her life, but a strange gut feeling kept telling her to run. One started to roll in her direction, another one followed it...]
Oh, come on, my cherry friends!
[Rydia smiled, waving her hands in front of her and taking a couple of steps back: if they were going to attack her she wasn't going to be unprepared. The summoner was ready to defend herself and if they were plant creatures like the sylphs a good fire spell on them all was probably going to suffice... right? She just had to keep distance to have enough time to eventually cast the spell!]
You know, in my world we have creatures that look like you, but they're flying and they're made of fire. They show equally amazing smiles...
[Well, they had the same crazy 'I'm going to explode in your face' expression... but even if the summoner befriended a good amount of Piros in her homeworld those weird strawberries kept sending her hostile vibes. Oh, yes, they were definitely going to attack, she just had to look around to notice how they slowly managed to surround her to know they were up to no good. Her right hand moved to grab the whip and she started focusing her energies to prepare a spell.] Oh well... [Like she fought hostile creatures on her planet to defend she was definitely going to bite back if she had to.]
