CHARACTER

Name: Rydia of Mist
Canon/OC: Canon
Canon Point: After TAY's ending

Age: unknown (at least 25 years between humans and an unknown amount of years between monsters)

Canon World

Rydia has 'two' worlds and this section will try to cover them both.

First, she is a child of the Feymarch, a colony of monsters who live underground guided by eidolons. They have magic, they don't seem to have any kind of real technology and everything is made out of wood. She grew up in a place where time flows herratically (it's implied it's faster than how it flows in the human world) but nothing really changes. There's no sun, no seasons, creatures just 'live' there and the society seems to consider the summons some sort of guide for the community while normal monsters peacefully enjoy their time in the 'World Below'. There is little to say here beside that humans aren't welcome in the land. Under the city there's some kind of dark abyss but canon wise we don't know what's under there.

The 'second' world is the rest of the planet, this including the underworld: the surface is covered in medieval-like kingdoms and... then there's Troia. Technology on the surface varies according to the region with Baron's airships the dwarven tanks and Damcyan's hovercraft being the pinnacle of vehicles and everything else being really basic or magic centered. Speaking of magic, the Blue Planet loves it: alien races have advanced technologies (The lunarians and the creator both have planet-sized ships, basically) but only few people can take advantage of that, for everyone spells are the best way to deal with everyday's problems even if not everyone can use them.

Considering Rydia spent 17 years tyrying to be accepted back in the Feymarch she seems to consider the land of monsters her 'true' homeworld.

History

Bullet points:
- Rydia was born in Mist from an unknown father and spent her childhood with her mom in a small, lost village between mountains. She was likely to be the only kid of her place.
- At 7 she saw her village being destroyed by Kain and Cecil. She managed to forgive the and was somehow forced to travel with Cecil to stay alive.
- During their journey, after leaving Fabul, Leviathan attacks their ship. She is swallowed by him, kidnapped in the Feymarch and there she grows up trained by eidolons.
- She returns as adult after a while, joining Cecil and his friends in his quest to save the planet.
- After defeating Zeromus she tries to return to the Feymarch, place she considers her world, but Asura banishes her.
- Spends 17 years on the surface, in Mist, trying every now and then to return 'home' but she's never welcomed back. Her fellow villagers remind her they're waiting for the birth of a 'new summoner' (implying they're waiting her to have kids) but she never shows interest in anyone, not even Edge who keeps his eyes on her for the whole time (up to sneaking in her village, unseen, to check on her.). Rydia grows closer to the dwarven princess but at the same time she loses touch with her other friends (Rydia isn't seen interacting with Rosa, who was basically her BFF, once in the whole game).
The summoner visits the Feymarch one last time and her eidolons are attacked and turned to statues. She almost gets herself killed wandering outside with her spirit broken but Luca saves her. A new journey starts.
- She travels with her, Golbez, Edge and the Eblan four while the blue planet is being attacked by aliens who look a lot like her, Cecil acts like a crazy evil king because he's been brainwashed and Meteors hit the surface.
- She 'saves' some of the Eidolons and finds out Mist is safe because it was summoned by the rest of her villagers in time.
- Big reunion in Baron, Cecil is freed and everyone travels to the Moon. There's another big journey, they find out the crystals were created by an alien creature, the creator.
- The Creator is killed, they all flee from the collapsing moon, and the Maenads, the aliens who attacked the planet, end up helping them.
-By the end of the game Rydia is living in Mist again, now with the last living Maenad as her adopted daughter, and she finally reconciles with her adoptive family.

Personality

Rydia's most definining traits are her honesty and her kindness: she's a person who will always try her best to be honest and it would be incredibly easy to spot a lie between her words because her facial expressions will always betray what the summoner really thinks. The only exception? "I'm okay". Living on the surface and missing her homeland underground she learnt how to look at people and reassure them that nothing is wrong even when she's sad, scared or melanchonic.

She's very devoted to the people she considers her friends, being ready to speak up in their defense or fight to protect them, but the summoner shows kindness toward everyone, this including creatures without humanoid tracts. Being raised between monsters made her beauty standards a bit different from other people, she's accepting of all traits and what she looks the most in anyone is what's inside. It's worth noting that spending most of her childhood and part of her adulthood in the Feymarch and then isolating herself in what was left of Mist (an already reclused community) made Rydia a bit alienated from how normal human communities work. She can mix well enough but sometimes her oddness may show up.

Rydia is strongly driven by the need to help others and is seen more than once putting her own pain aside trying to motivate others in dark times, but during her years in the surface she lost part of her old confidence. If left alone she may let herself go, especially if people dear to her heart got injuried or died (In the beginning of her tale in TAY she almost gets killed because she 'gave up' when her eidolons are petrified). Despite having moments like that, now, she's still an extremely resilient person and considering she reconciled with her eidolon family her general mood is definitely going to improve.

She doesn't like to be alone and this is seen more than once in the games: taking her eidolons, who seem to be linked not only by magic to her, away makes her feel lost, both in TAY and in her special trial on the moon. Having someone at her side makes her strong and considering she'll lose her eidolons after arriving in another world she'll definitely try to know more people, being slightly biased toward non human races.

Other traits worth mentioning are her ability to forgive basically everyone (Even Cecil and Kain, who burnt down her village, and Golbez who ordered Cagnazzo to have Mist destroyed.), even more than once, and her motherly attitude toward younger people. Being a foster mother had no time to really impact her life so far but the kids in Mist seem fond of her, as young monsters in the Feymarch are, she's just genuinely good and patient with kids (and adults, when they act like children.). She tries to see the best in everyone, always.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Stregths

 • Rydia is really good with magic: she had been a spellcaster since childhood and kept training for most of her life, this being already part of a magically strong bloodline. Learning spells shouldn't be too hard, even if they are different from the ones she had in her homeworld.[I tried to link it deparately but... full list of spells and summons is here in the gameplay section]
 • She is extremely empathic and socializes with ease. Wild animals and monsters may also be more inclined to approach her peacefully.
 • Proficient whip user: where magic fails a whip can provide the needed help.
 • She is comfortable around any kind of creature, no matters how ugly it is.
 • She has great navigation skills underground: the access to the Feymarch was in a maze-like cave with hidden passages and she spent a lot of time with a roof over her head, the undergroudn is familiar to her.

Weaknesses
 • Physically speaking, she's really weak. Like, really weak.
 • Talking about the passing of time makes her uncomfortable: Her body doesn't seem to age and there are few hints ingame that it's not just an aesthetic choice so I'd like to keep her aware of this.
 • Too kind: it's just... too easy to take advantage of her. And she'll probably forgive anyone. At least a couple of times.
 • She has problems finding her way in wide open spaces.
Arrival Inventory

- Her standard clothes
- Mist whip
- Mist Ring
- Protect ring

[Mostly interested to use them as memories from so while I don't really mind to have her totally powerless I'd still like to let her keep her Mist ring?]

Human'ization

It's implied summoners aren't human in the purest sense but she doesn't differ aestetically from other people beside her hair color.

Fit
As a summoner Rydia had been stripped of white magic (it's blatant on the lunar trial where just returning a kid she manages to wield it again) so she'd probably show curiosity and interest in healing spells, trying something that was previously impossible for her. The various branches of magic would fascinate her, even if she'd probably be wary of blood magic, still accepting its users around: bring so close with demons, even if it will be a new concept for her, will sound scary.
Religion is another thing that will intrigue her: Bahamuth, her god, lives on the moon. He's there. She spoke with him, they used to see each other on regular basis, how can you believe in something that doesn't even seem to exist? It wll be confusing but fascinating at the same time.

Also, This setting is way more complex than the human world she's kinda used to (Not to mention the Feymarch where nothing changes) so Rydia would be rather interested in how differents politics are too, still not wanting to be involved. Oh, and considering her background she's more likely than other people to welcome with open arms creatures of all kinds, no matters how infamous their reputation are. And there's a new whole world filled with countless creatures to meet! She will probably spend a lot of time reading books about animals, monsters... eventually trying to find occasions to study or befriend them.
