He likes her humming, it’s soothing, helping him to relax whenever the emotions boil to the surface yet again. When he thinks he’ll be fine, he ends up gasping out another sob, quiet, but still there, still happening. It’s subsided from what it was before, at least. Her cuddling him also helps tremendously, of course, a gentle touch that he’s needed for far too long.
“I’m sorry,” Kain says, understanding the sarcasm, the tone in her voice that speaks of a frustration he can’t begin to understand. He takes it for granted, knowing what the surface is like, takes it for granted that she was gone far longer from her perspective than it ever seemed from theirs. Years living among Eidolons. That has to change a person, considerably. “I’ll try and help when and if I can, anytime you feel that you don’t understand something…” It’s the least he can do, considering how much she’s doing for him already.
Kain closes his eyes for just a moment as she gives him that kiss and affectionate scratch. He looks at her then, realizing how it must have sounded. He’s never thought others beneath him at all, even though most of them show their emotions so much more readily than him. “Of course not. You’re far from weak… you’re one of the strongest people I know. None of you are weak…” Well. Edward might be the exception, but that’s more to do with making a battle technique out of hiding, than anything involving emotions. “I know how it must sound. But… it’s just… for me, I guess. I cannot accept it in myself… letting emotions overcome me...” Sure, some of it is just how he is, he’s simply not an expressive person, not prone to wearing his heart on his sleeve. But he also has to hold back quite a bit sometimes too.
