Kain has spent so long pushing others away, keeping to himself that it’s… surprising, to have her pulling him close like this. No one has done such a thing for him in a very long time. Not since his father’s death, that one time that he’d finally broken down and Rosa had comforted him… Other than that, he’d always kept his distance as much as possible. Breaking down into tears like this is just not the way a man ought to behave. Not in Kain’s opinion, anyway.

At the moment, though, all of those typical inhibitions are gone. The emotions are just too intense, too difficult to handle. He can’t bear it any longer. Now that it’s started, he can’t stop, can’t go back. So Kain leans his head in against her, continuing to sob as she holds him. She’s warm and comforting, in actions as well as words. She’s saying things he needs to hear.

“...s- sorry for this… I didn’t mean to… I shouldn’t burden you with this…” He might have pointed out the oddness of the chin scratches in some other situation. But at the moment, it’s even quite… soothing in its way. Kain’s weeping subsides a little bit, the sobs slowing a little. “But… thank you…”
